Ice cream and other news

I have not had anything from an ice-cream truck in six years. That never actually occurred to me until now. Hm. Well, I haven't until today. Dad saw the ice-cream truck going by on the main road, and he flagged it down. And the driver saw him! So now we are all happy and full of ice cream from the ice-cream truck. :-)

Expect another chapter of The Wizard of Paws posted within the week.

Expect the end of the Story of Nonsense...posted...within...the month?

And remember when I would post about how The Wizard of Oz was going about once a week and then stopped? Well, here's what's happened:

  • The Wizard of Oz opens in 9 days!
  • The T-shirts have been made and given out to those who ordered them. Apparently, you could put more than your name on the back...only we didn't notice that. The producer's shirt says "Don't make me call my flying monkeys".
  • Having rehearsals on a Saturday morning is a bad idea. There was a pathetic amount of energy in a couple of scenes, and a lot of the cue lines were missed by the trees.
  • Tech week, when we rehearse for the whole week at the actual theater, is next week.
  • We've (the trees) started rehearsing with tree branches, only there aren't quite enough branches to go around. So grab some early, or you're stuck with a little vine with an acorn on it in one hand, and a little bush in the other. I know from experience.
  • We've also begun rehearsing with Toto, though she (the actor for Toto is a girl) keeps running offstage.
Anything else posted might be a spoiler, so just wait until the play is over.

Also, I can do an almost-headstand now! My record is four seconds. I can't do a cartwheel to save my life.

Random Spontaneous Post II

It's 9:30 on the 2nd of March, and it's still snowing. WE'RE LOOKING FOR SPRINGTIME, HERE!!!
I tried looking to see if Fang's blog (y'know, from the Maximum Ride series) exists, but all I got was a blog about cereal. Oh, wait, I found it. Ignore everything I just said.

Jake and Ben have been digging a hole in the backyard for about a week now. Last I checked, it was 1 foot 10 inches deep, 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. And we're still digging. Last night I had a dream they took all the dirt from it, built into half a pyramid, and found a gigantic iron bowl and opened up a museum in the backyard. Then the government built a hiking trail in two seconds in the pasture with shovels and then they slid down it with neon green and red skis. That were not broken.

I just realized my blog has nothing to do with little colored fairy lights.

Even MORE of the Wizard of Oz, plus the obvious is stated

We're actually getting somewhere Wizard-of-Oz wise! Here is some news:

  • Some of the taller flowers are going to double as trees.
  • The trees are going to be stagehands, too. As far as I know, we just really quickly move the props around when the scenes change. All of the props are going to be on wheels, so we don't have to take twenty minutes to change scenes.
  • There are 10 performances.
  • We have dedicated about 9 hours, 15 minutes to the play so far.

Stating the obvious, nothing works, my feet are freezing, and it's 40 degrees outside! The thing that doesn't work of the day is the E-mail thingy! It's stubborn and won't send anything. Not my fault if you receive my replies this time a century from now.

Corrections! Corrections!

For One, apparently Bandito Chinchilla is English. Hm.
For Two, I am too tall to be a flower. So, I am going to be either a tree or a lady-in-waiting. Jacob is still a Kalidah. Kalidahflower!

First practice is on the 27th, according to the calendar! So far, we have dedicated... approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes to the play. Or was it 6?

Wizard of Oz

We (Jake, Dad, myself) auditioned for The Wizard of Oz today at the Fantasy Playhouse in Huntsville. The play's going to be directed by one of Dad's co-workers, Bill. Well, two days ago, Bill was saying that nobody was going to show up...
The turnout of people who auditioned for The Wizard of Oz was a record for the Fantasy Playhouse: more than 240 people. And the Playhouse has been doing plays for more than 50 years.

But there's one downside to that amount of people.
5 hours.
5 HOURS.
That's how long it took to audition. Here's what we did:

First, we went to the wrong theater. Then we found the right theater. Then we had to get through a line of people to get the form things. Then we
filled out the forms, turned them in, got a monologue (a page or paragraph of something you're supposed to say that has nothing to do with the play at all but apparently is quite important for tryouts) got a number (they called us by number when it was our turn to read the monologue) went into this room full of chairs and people, waited, waited, waited some more, waited, waited, and FINALLY, we got to read the monologue.

The thing about monologues is that they're given to you at your age level, only they're entirely random so you can't really choose what you get. The monologues you could get for this audition (by listening the other people read theirs)

ages 4-9- Something from Dr. Suess
Ages 10-14- Something from Charlie Brown (I got Peppermint Patty) or from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Ages 15-I dunno- Begging your parent to either let you have your own room or stay up late to watch something on TV, or an excuse for why you were late for school or a rant about how you get blamed for everything your sister does

Then, after we read the monologue, we had to wait...
and wait...
and wait...
and wait...
and WAIT...
Repeat fifty times...
and WAIT and then they figured out who would be who (after an hour) and then, if you were something like a Munchkin or a Flying Monkey or someone in a group, they'd call the names of you and everyone else in your group and they'd take you into this room and tell you and everyone else in your group what part you got.

Guess what I am?

I'm a flower. Along with about seven other girls around 6-9 who were very excited that they got to be in the play (honestly so was I),  with the exception of two girls who wanted to be Munchkins, but they were told that if they wanted to try to be someone else, they'd lose the chance they'd definitely be in the play, so they decided "nah, I'll be a flower". They didn't sound too pleased about it.
I'm also in the chorus line as a tree, since I'm much taller than the other flowers.

Jake should get a call this week about his role.

:-)
